The Fall of Dr. Fantastic and the Fine Friends

Dr. Fantastic and Firentis ran through the snow, the only survivors of the massacre at Ayyike. Hundreds had died there, among them the Doctor's closest friends. Only Firentis had managed to stay with the Doctor during the fight, the last two standing as their capture was ordered. Together they had escaped captivity from King Yarolek, the bastard who had put so many in the ground.

They trekked through the snow from dawn til dusk, the burning rooftops of Friendly villages on the horizon, ushering in a new age of war.

When they finally crossed the Cold river, they found the entire Vaegir warband waiting for them, encamped around Curaw - the captial of the Fine Friends. Slipping past the seige lines and entering the fortress city, the Doctor made his way to the great hall, gathering supplies and rallying his forces as he went. Firentis never left the Doctor's side, his morningstar and shield slung on his back constantly.

Just as they reached the entrance to the great hall, assassins attacked the battered duo. Firentis pulled his morningstar from his back and weaved between incoming blows, crushing the skull of one while avoiding the other. The Doctor stepped in from behind the attacking assassin and cleaved him with a two-hander, and Firentis spun to face their final opponent. An arrow flew straight for Firentis and he flung himself to cover, landing heavily in his chainmail. The Doctor stepped forward and charged the archer, raising his sword above his head and calling out to his heathen gods. The archer fired and the Doctor spun, avoiding the arrow and bringing the sword down in one motion, sinking his blade into leather and flesh.

The Doctor knew the battle for Curaw was already lost, and ordered the entire garrison to join his warband. When night fell, they left for Wercheg, the distance fortress on the coastline of the Nordic lowlands.

When they reached Wercheg, the black banner of the fine friends was gone. Replaced with the cursed banner of the Vaegirs. The Doctor ordered the castle to be sieged immediately, knowing that the garrison was a pitiful band of rookies, left behind while the knights rode with the lords.

They stormed the walls and crushed the defenders, the Doctor leading the charge. With Wercheg securely back in his hands, he began to weigh up his options.
